Product Description

The G308C100 model was designed by Red Lion for the G3 Series of HMIs for indoor use with Crimson 2.0 Software. The communication ports on this model are non-isolated. Three serial ports are available on this model. Due to some of the enhanced features available on this model, it can communicate with many different hardware types through the high-speed communication ports which are labeled as RS ports and are either 485, 422, or 232 ports, with two different Ethernet ports labeled as 10 Base-T or 100 Base-TX as well. As there are no available USB hosts with this model fast downloads will be difficult and will likely need to be done through the CompactFlash card on the device instead. 

As with many of the Red Lion operator interface terminals, the G308C100 model also has a touchscreen interface, the touchscreen is resistive analog. When the user touches an active touchscreen cell and the touch is sensed a discernable sound will be produced. Once the unit has been completely initialized the touchscreen will be wholly functional and can be operated by the user with gloved hands. 

The display screen associated with this model is a 7.5” TFT LED display and is used to exhibit a variety of different graphics as well as text. The backlight on this display will have a limited lifetime when used at full capacity at all times, to extend the backlight lifetime on this unit it can be dimmed when being used in lower light conditions. It is recommended that when the display is not being used that the backlight is turned off to also extend the lifetime, to turn the display off it can be configured through the Crimson software on the device.

The dominant difference between the G308C100 and other G308 HMIs is the touchscreen; the touchscreen on the G308C100 terminal is smaller than the other models coming in at 7.7 inches. The touchscreens are not only different in size but also the touchscreen type itself; the touchscreen on the G308C100 model is resistive analog, while the other G308 units are simply analog. The G308 models were designed with a TFT touchscreen, whereas the G308C100 model was designed with a DSTN touchscreen.

When the G308C100 operator interface terminal uses an expansion card, how does it function with the Crimson software?

When any expansion card is used with the G308C100 module, the Crimson software will use CSMSTRSX, also known as Enhanced Modular Controller Master, allowing this model to provide extra communications facilities. The Crimson software can configure the expansion cards to the user's preferences. Depending on the expansion card and ports, specific drives must be used; one example is the CANOpen expansion card only supports drives designed to the CAN communication standard.

While other models in the G308C1/G308A2 group of HMIs come with a USB host, isolated comms, and in some panel cases, dual ethernet, the G308C100 model is not equipped with any of these features. There is no USB host, and the comms are considered non-isolated. Another downside of the G308C100 panel is that the touchscreen is smaller, coming in at 7.7" rather than more standard 8.4" for the G308 models. - AX Control Tech
