The UAZ-3255 is a VZ3000 55kW Thyristor Unit/Converter Unit originally produced by Reliance Electric. This unit may have also been sold by ABB and Baldor Reliance depending on its production years, but this series of parts have been discontinued by all of its original manufacturers. The UAZ-3255 is a little hard to find now, but AX Control still makes the attempt to keep it in stock.
The UAZ-3255 is 3-phase and uses class 200 power supply voltage. It can maintain a 350 amp, 50/60 Hz, and 180/260 VAC input and a 298 amp 240-350 VDC output. It has a 5 kiloamp short circuit rating capacity.
The front cover on the UAZ-3255 is able to be removed by loosening the four screws located at each of its four corners and sliding it up and then off. There are two sets of main terminals on this unit. There is a set of three on top that are labeled R, S, T and a set on the bottom that are labeled PB, P, and N. Just behind the top main terminals is a protective plate. On the bottom of the unit is a large fan assembly that helps to force air to the internal components. On the front of the unit are circuit control terminals and display lamps. The control terminals are labeled Conv-on, FR, FR, ROH, IP, RDY, 0 VC, and +VC. The display lamps are labeled TR, ROH, RB, RDY, RST, FAN, OH, IP, and PWR.
