About the K-56

K-56 Field Loss Relay Series Information

The K-56 field loss relay, a UL recognized component, was produced by Reliance Electric. The K-56 field loss relay has since been discontinued by Reliance Electric, although AX Control may have the K-56 relay in stock today. Call us at 1-919-372-8413 or email us at sales@axcontrol.com as soon as possible to inquire about the availability of the K-56 relay, which can be in our stock as either a brand new item from surplus stock or refurbished by our team of professionals.

K-56 Field Loss Relay Device Functionality

The K-56 relay’s inner relay coil is:

  • deprived of energy whenever the relay contacts/the field open so that the motor is disconnected from the line
  • also connected in series with the shunt field
    • occurs whenever the relay motor contacts are inside of the motor control circuit
  • designed to allow for maximum field current continuously

Field loss relays allow protection against motor and load damage from over-speeding whenever the compound or shunt wound motors are not rigidly connected to the load or are operated at light loads. In addition to that, the field loss relays provide protection against over-speeding on DC shunt or compound wound motors should an open circuit appear in the field.

The K-56 field loss relays are adjusted in the factory to pick up at 1/10 of the maximum field current Amps. The drop out of the K-56 field loss relay is about 62% of the pick up value. The K-56 field loss relay is light weight, with an approximate of 0.08 lbs. or 0.36 kg.

The K-56 Field Loss Relay Assembly present on this page here is really not accompanied online by too many original RE manuals; this is most likely the cause of its lumping within the amalgamated Rectifiers & Misc. Series here. This K-56 Field Loss Relay device is crucial to the protection of several functional faults that plague RE products; a worthwhile if not critical investment for your industrial automated needs. - AX Control Lead Technician
