This stack may have also been offered under the names of ASEA BROWN BOVERI and Reliance Electric depending on what years it was made. This system is no longer being produced by these companies, but AX Control maintains a new surplus or reconditioned part in stock.
The 78177-2RC is also known as a Phase Rectifier Module. The main purpose of the 78177-2RC is to help turn free-flowing AC current into a one-way flowing DC current. This switch is done because DC current is easier to control. There are many different types of rectifiers, this one is in the copper/selenium oxide plate stack form. Typically, Reliance Electric used this rectifier is part of a three-phase system because it is used in a high-power application. This rectifier could be interchanged with others in the same phase.
