The 57C428 was created to be part of an AutoMax DCS as a Toledo Scale Interface Module. Its main objective was to provide the AutoMax system with varying weight specifications from Toledo indicators. These indicators are 8132, 8140, 8142, and 8530. This component was meant to be seen as a read-only device. When it was functioning in a constant output mode, this device was able to collect data that was related to weight from a gauge using typical Toledo Scale practices.

The 57C428 had several features that were prominent on its faceplate. It had LED status lights that were labeled OK and FAULT.
