Product Description

Adept at safeguarding and managing transformer systems, GE Multilin’s 745-W2-P5-G5-HI Transformer Protection Relay extends transformer life expectancy and optimizes transformer performance. This unit is the high control power version of the 745, accepting a control power input of 90 to 300 V DC; 70 to 265 V AC. The relay offers transformer systems a number of practical features, including overexcitation blocking, overfrequency/underfrequency protection, restricted ground fault protection, and system overload protection. The relay can monitor and efficiently respond to shifting system variables like temperature or current. Boasting sixteen logic inputs and an expansive array of ports located at the rear of the terminal, the 745-W2-P5-G5-HI is highly configurable and can act as a stand-alone unit or a component in a larger array.

The 745-W2-P5-G5-HI includes the following options for connecting a computer running the EnerVista 745 software program to the 745 transformer protection relay:

  • The RS232 port on the front panel of the relay, ideal for direct connection to a computer for purposes of monitoring a single relay.

  • The RS485/RS422 ports located on the rear panel of the relay, ideal for direct connection for purposes of monitoring more than one relay.

  • Ethernet, preferable for nondirect connection to the relay. (Note that this feature is optional and only included in 745 models with "T" in the model number - prospective buyers should purchase one of these units if Ethernet connection is desired.)

Once the preferred method of connection is properly established, users can utilize EnerVista 745 to monitor the system and edit setpoints with relative ease, especially compared to manually entering setpoints through the relay’s front keypad. Within the EnerVista 745 program, users can check various measurements within the transformer system and also trend that data for further analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions about 745-W2-P5-G5-HI

What is the ground current input rating for this 745-W2-P5-G5-Hi transformer protection system?
The ground current input rating for this 745-W2-P5-G5-Hi transformer protection system is specified by the G5 order code of the parent part number. This multilin transformer management relay has two windings per phase. The ground current imput rating for the G5 option is set at winding 1/2 = 5 A and Winding 2/3 = 5A for this relay.
What is the difference between a high and a low control power for a Multilin transformer high speed protection system?
The  745-W2-P5-G5-Hi Multilin system has a high control power. This setting includes a direct current that is 90 to 300 volts DC. The AC range is from 70 to 265 volts. This range is at 48-62 Hz. In contrast to the 745-W2-P5-G5-Hi, a LO control power option for the transformer protection system has a range of 20 to 60 V DC and 20 to 48 volt AC at the same range of Hz.
What is the phase current input rating for the Multilin General Electric 745-W2-P5-G5-HI Transformer High Speed Protection Relay with Two Windings per Phase?
The phase current input rating for this Multilin 745-W2-P5-G5-HI is a P5 option which specifies that Winding 1 = 5 A, winding 2 = 5 A, and winding 3 = 5 A if applicable. Again this specific transformer protection system, 745-W2-P5-G5-HI, is a two windings per phase relay.

Reviews For 745-W2-P5-G5-HI

Internal Review
(4.0)

This version of the 745 lacks the analog inputs/outputs, loss of life, restricted ground fault, and enhanced display features of other models. While the relay works well for its intended purposes, prospective buyers should ensure these features are not needed before purchasing this model. -AX Control Tech Team (4 stars)
