Product Description

The 169PLUS-120N-125VDC is a highly configurable Motor Protection System produced by General Electric Multilin. The relay comes with basic setpoints programmed for a large motor system, and users can further adjust these setpoints upon receiving the relay or as they become more familiar with the data produced by the relay.

While users can manage their motor system with fairly few connections to GE Multilin’s 169PLUS-120N-125VDC, the unit does offer a wide array of ports to diversify and customize the relay’s functions. Some of these connections include:

  • Auxiliary Relay Contacts: These two contacts provide additional sets of NO/NC connection and work independently of other contacts. The relays can be configured as non-fail safe or fail safe and as latched or unlatched. They can be used to active alarms or trip functions, and can trip devices that aren’t simply the motor.

  • RTD Sensor Connections: Users can connect up to six resistance temperature detectors for monitoring values such as stator motor temperature, hottest historical temperature, and ambient air temperature. The data gained from these connections is then used by the relay to schedule optimal cooling processes.

  • Analog Output Terminals: These two terminals can be configured using the relay’s setpoint system. It enables connection to chart recorders, remote meters, programmable recorders, and/or computer loads.

  • Emergency Restart Terminals: This connection type can override trips within the system and forcibly restart the motor.

These connections increase the overall versatility of the system and can further shield motor components from harm during operation.

Frequently Asked Questions about 169PLUS-120N-125VDC

What is the 169PLUS-120N-125VDC?

The 169PLUS-120N-125VDC is a Motor Management Relay produced by General Electric Multilin. It is intended for use with three phase medium to large motors and provides elements designed to protect, control, and monitor the motor system. This particular unit has 120 ohm nickel RTD and a control power of 125 V DC.
What RTD inputs does the 169PLUS-120N-125VDC have?
The 169PLUS-120N-125VDC, and other relays in the GE Multilin 169 Plus family of motor management relays have a variety of input options. The 169 Multilin relay model has 6 stator RTDS and 2 additional after those six. In contrast, the 169 Plus relays, such as a 169PLUS-120N-125VDC, has four additional RTDS after those six.
Are mounting accessories provided for the 169PLUS-120N-125VDC Multilin motor management 169 Plus relay?
GE Multilin 169 and 169 Plus motor management relays such as the 169PLUS-120N-125VDC have the ability to be mounted with four mounting holes included on the mounting panel. Included with the relay as purchased from Multilin are four mounting screws (10-32 x 3/8 inch) and four washers. The 169 series of relays are built with internal shielding in order to reduce the amount of interference or noise pickup that the relay experiences during operation. Regardless, it is beneficial to secure the relay in a location separate from magnetic fields or from high current conductors to further eliminate the occurrence of interference.  The terminal blocks located at the rear panel of the 169PLUS-120N-125VDC are beneficial to establish connections when necessary. The 169PLUS-120N-125VDC has analog current output terminals that have the ability to be programmed to better tailor a relay to the motor management application. The relays also have a RS 422 Serial port (if Plus model).  The 169 Plus relays have four sets of relay contacts (NO/NC). For the purpose of comparison, the 169 model only has two sets of relay contacts.
