Product Description

A model of the 169 series with an enhanced power range (240 VAC, range: 180-270 VAC), General Electric Multilin’s 169PLUS-100P-240 Motor Management Relay is an excellent choice for high control power systems. The relay can monitor, protect, and control motor systems in real time, responding to events and recording timestamps as they arise. The faceplate of the 169PLUS-100P-240 has LEDs and an alphanumeric LCD that helps alert users to these protective processes in an active fashion.

The 169PLUS-100P-240 includes a number of protective features that prolong motor life and reduce maintenance time. Overload protection, short circuit protection, phase reversal, motor jam detection, overtemperature protection, and undercurrent protection are all features that shield the motor system from harm and attempt to return conditions to normal operation. The 169PLUS-100P-240 also has a number of programmable alarm functions that can warn users of impending problems before these processes occur.

Multilin’s 169PLUS-100P-240 RS422 communications port allows it to connect to other 169 relays (or other devices by using the Multilin 169 Plus Relay Communication Protocol) for the purpose of monitoring multiple motor systems at one time. The relay creates a “MASTER” and “SLAVE” logic for multiple relay systems with one of the 169s acting as the primary controller of the relay system. It should be noted that the MASTER 169 cannot be used for motor management, instead controlling the network itself. As a result, the MASTER 169 should be placed in a central location so that users can easily reference the actual values being recorded by SLAVE 169s/devices.

Frequently Asked Questions about 169PLUS-100P-240

What is the 169PLUS-100P-240?

General Electric Multilin's 169PLUS-100P-240 is a three phase motor management relay that protects motors, motor equipment, and personnel. It controls the relay through a logic system and a number of highly configurable system settings.
What are some standard applications and protection features of a GE Multilin 169PLUS-100P-240 for the end user
The 169PLUS-100P-240 is a member of the GE Multilin 169 Plus series of motor management relays. This specific relay and other 169 or 169 Plus Multilin relays have a variety of end applications for the user.  These relays can be used to protect a variety of motors and their corresponding mechanical equipment due to the versatility of the features included in the relay. For example, the 169PLUS-100P-240 can be used to protect a motor from shock hazards in the event of a winding short or an earth leakage current due to moisture conditions. This 169 Plus relay can also be used to protect components of the motor from a mechanical jam (saw mills, compressors, pumps, gears, fans, etc.). The relay is able to connect to computers and other programmable controllers to enhance communication ability within the plant as a whole. A custom overload curve is used to protect drive systems with longer acceleration than normal or in situations when drives experience high inertia conditions. The provided undercurrent feature provides protection of motors in the event of lost pump suction or loss of fan airflow.  These protection features described above are simply a brief summary of the variable protection that a 169 Multilin motor management relay provides the user. An increase in tailored protection is seen with the 169 Plus Multilin models, which affords the user additional features for customizable protection and management of motors.
