DS3820LT4A1B1A GE Load Trak IV Module 

The DS3820LT4A1B1A is a GE Mark IV Speedtronic component.  Mark IV systems are typically used for the management of steam and gas turbines.  The Speedtronic line, which began in the late 1960s with the Mark I, made a leap forward in reliability with the introduction of the Mark IV, which ushered in the use of TMR (triple modular redundant) control.  This type of control system, which creates duplicate systems to monitor all critical controls and protection parameters, significantly reduced downtime caused by part failure.  

The DS3820LT4A1B1A functions as a Load Trak IV controller.  This controller is part of GE’s series of medium voltage motor controllers.  This module panel has a front faceplate that includes two LED indicators, five input buttons, and a small screen to allow for the reading of local data.  LEDs are labeled “Im Ok” and “Trip.”  Inputs include a select button, a reset button, a scan/enter button, and decrease and increase buttons.   The unit is designed with a microprocessor, a relay to allow for the setting of trip temperatures for RTDs and overcurrent units.  Limits are set using real motor data, which must be entered into the unit.  Connections are made to the unit via a back panel, which is designed with two terminal strips.
