The GE Function Processor Board DS3800HFPC features a modular connector for attachment to a drive and retention levers to hold the board in the drive. The GE Function Processor Board DS3800HFPC also is populated with 8 jumpers, and multiple capacitors. The board also has 1 40-pin connector that is accessible from the front of the board. It also has standoffs for attaching a daughter card.

Another component on the board is a transistor to transistor logic (TTL) device. It serves as the interface logic between integrated circuits. The erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) modules come preloaded from the factory with the instructions and firmware the board uses to process information. The modules are installed on a socket that is embedded on the board. The modules can be removed and replaced by a trained servicer. This is useful if the board is to be replaced. The replacement board comes without EPROM modules. The module sockets are empty. This is to enable the servicer to install the same firmware and code on the replacement board. In this way, the new board will behave the same as the defective board. The drive can quickly resume operations after the board is replaced.

However, you must understand that the firmware and code on the modules is easily corrupted by static interference. This can happen when the modules are handled or stored improperly. For example, always store the modules in a static protective bag. The bag keeps static from entering the modules. When you remove the modules, a wrist strap will drain static from your body to the grounded surface the strap is connected to.
