The ribbon cable is the means by which the board receives signals from other boards in the drive. It is also the means by which the board transmits signals to other boards. The ribbon cable also supplies electric current to the board. To prevent damage to the ribbon cable it is important to follow some specific guidelines. The ribbon cable is permanently attached to the board and the cable is 7-inches in length. The ribbon cable is attached to a connector that you plug into a matching connector in the interior of the board. Handle the connector gently because the 20 fine strands of wire that comprise the cable are easy to damage. Align it with the connector in the drive and press it into the connector. Inspect it for space between the connectors. If you see open space, press the two connectors together to ensure the connectors are fully seated.

When you replace the board, first disconnect the ribbon cable before you remove the board. It is important to prevent the ribbon cable from being forcefully tugged. Use 1 hand to pull the ribbon cable connector from the matching connector in the interior of the drive. Then, remove the GE Generator Regulator Board DS3800DXRA1C1C from the drive.
