The GE LCI Exciter Control Board DS3800DECA1B1B features 1 20-pin ribbon cable and 5 trimmer resistors. The GE LCI Exciter Control Board DS3800DECA1B1B also is populated with 4 jumpers, 1 potentiometer, and 4 test points.

The 20-pin ribbon cable is mounted on the board to provide a connection from the board to the drive. It is approximately 8-inches in length and attaches to a 20-pin connector that is located close to the board. Some of the 20 signals originate in other boards. Other signals are transmitted by the board to other devices and components in the drive. In general, signals are received by the board for processing then sent to still other boards and devices for further processing.

When you remove the board you must first disconnect the 20-pin ribbon cable. If you attempt to tug the ribbon cable out of the connector, it is easy to damage and break the connection between the fine strands of wire and the plastic connector at the end of the cable. When you install the replacement board, make sure the ribbon cable is fully seated. You can visually inspect it for space between the connectors. To make sure the connection is complete, firmly press on the connector.

The potentiometer has a dial that enables you to adjust the signal properties in the circuit. When you are preparing to replace the board, use a tester to match the signal properties before you install it. Adjust the dial to match the properties of the old board and the replacement board.
