The DataMan series of barcode scanners ranges from both the immobile, larger scanners (the 150/152 series, and the 260/262 series.) and then the smaller, handheld, user-friendly models, the 800/850/855 series. The DMR-855’s specifications are physically in line with the similar model, the DataMan 850 model:

- the average weight is a little heavier than the DataMan 850 version, weighing at 13.79 ounces, or 391 grams
- the DMR-855 model is housed in a protective frame, covered in a case that has earned an IP-65 grade
The power source for the DMR-855 module is an internal Lithium/Ion battery pack, capable of reaching up to 2200 milliamp Hours (mAH), as opposed to a 5 volt, direct current Class 2 device via a cable. The light source of the 855 module has an aiming laser diode of 650 nanometers, and a single LED light for illumination, measured at 630 nanometers.
