Product Description

D4-EX is a local base expansion unit designed by Automation Direct, Facts Engineering, and Koyo. Developed for the DirectLogic 405 series, this module interfaces with programmable logic controllers from the same series. When in use, base expansion units like this convert controllers into extra I/O slots for a main PLC. This device should only be used is local expansion is needed.

Appearing similar to the CPU modules, D4-EX is installed into the first slot on the controller. The series features 4, 6, and 8 slot I/O bases for optimal expanded memory. External power supplies are not needed for the expansion unit to operate as a power supply is included. This model specifically features a 110/220 VAC power supply. An expansion cable, like D4-EXCBL-1 or D4-EXCBL-2, is required to connect the secondary PLC to the primary unit. Using the separately purchased cable, data collected by the expansion base is fed directly to the primary local base’s CPU.

When operating, be sure to follow all installation and storage parameters to prevent device damage. When installing, the device should be mounted horizontally to allow air to circulate around the device, acting as a cooling agent. Environmental temperatures can affect the integrity of the device. When operating, temperatures can safely range from 0℃ to 60℃, or 32℉ to 140℉. Even when the device is not in use, ambient temperatures can still affect the module. Storage temperatures can safely fall as low as -20℃, or -4℉, and raise as high as 70℃, or 158℉. All installation and wiring instructions are available in the series manual and device datasheet. Technical support for this module was provided by the original manufacturers.
