About the D4-454

D4-454 is a VAC I/O module developed by Automation Direct. A member of the DirectLogic 405 series, this module is designed to interface with DL405 programmable logic controllers. This module can also communicate with a number of other modules and peripheral devices.

Power terminal connections under the front covers of the CPU Unit D4-454 are as follows:

The D4-454 CPUs have an LED indicator that flashes when the battery voltage is low. The typical battery life under the proper conditions is five years.

Operators generally use DirectSOFT6 Programming software. This can be found on the manufacturer's website and can be installed on a personal computer to program and monitor the PLC. Three ports on the D4-454 can be used to connect the necessary cables.

The D4-454 model is considered the successor to the D4-430, D4-440, and D4-450 CPUs due to the enhanced microprocessor technology. Due to the enhanced technology, the D4-454 model is considered the primary CPU choice for use in the DirectLogic 405 line. 

The D4-454 model supports floating-point math technology. The floating-point math technology allows this module to compute full trigonometric functions, as well as an abundance of integer/floating-point number conversions.

The D4-454 model features scan control; what are those functions, and how do they work?

There are three scan control features available with this module. The three features are described as variable, fixed, and limited scan. Each of these features is different. The fixed scan is primarily used when the scan control has finished prior to the specified time, so idle time can be added to ensure there is a set fixed scan period; if the scan exceeds the set time, then the scan will be extended to make sure that all of the scan instructions are fully completed; a can overrun condition will also be reported in the scan control time is exceeded. The variable scan control will vary from scan to scan; the actual scan time set within the variable control will depend on the instruction sets in the variable control. The limited scan control function is similar to the variable scan function in the fact that it will also vary depending on the scan and scan instructions; if the actual scan time exceeded the set target set time, then an overrun condition will be initiated.
