This unit is one of the several devices designed and produced by Woodward Inc. as a part of the SPM-D10 series of generator synchronizer modules. It is listed under the designation of 8440-1433. The SPM-D10 synchronizers are designed to be integrated within the system of three phase, alternating current, industrial generators. This series is able to be fit into generators that are outfitted with either a Woodward-designed speed control and automatic voltage regulator, or other brands that are still of a compatible design. The 8440-1433 is capable of several frequency and phase matching functions. The unit is able to either phase match, or synchronize slip frequencies while voltage matching occurs. This unit is able to handle two phase sensing of both the generator it is mounted to and the utility bus it is attached to. While isolated, the 8440-1433 is capable of both voltage and frequency control. The 8440-1433 is designed with a housing frame that is a DIN 43 700 type APRANORM frame. The front of the unit has a protective rating of IP42, and the back, an IP21 rating. The dimensions of the unit gives it measurements of 144 millimeters by 72 mm by 122 mm. The weight is approximately 800 grams. The 8440-1433 unit is able to measure frequency between 40 to 70 hertz, and requires a power supply that ranges from 18 to 32 volts of direct current. Nominally, the power supply should be 24 V/DC. This unit’s operational temperature range is a standard range from -40 to 70 degrees C, or -40 to 158 degrees F.
