Product Description

Part 8200-204 is a digital overspeed protection trip device. This system was manufactured by Woodward as part of their ProTech 203 series. Model 8200-204 is one of the energize-to-trip versions in the series and is the only energize-to-trip model with a 220 Vac input.

Three separate magnetic pickups sense prime mover speed and monitor for overspeed conditions. If conditions are detected, a trip relay is activated. Accuracy and reliability are ensured in this system that utilizes three identical, individual speed-sensing units which are connected and configured for two-out-of-three voting. This configuration also permits online testing and the replacement of an individual unit should one fail.

Each unit in the 8200-204 system has a front panel with a touchpad, digital display, and LED indicators. There are separate LEDs to indicate a tripped speed-sensing unit, a failed MPU or its wiring, and an error in the units CPU. If a unit has tripped, there is an alarm output along with the LED.

The front panel is where the 8200-204 is programmed. Access to switch between MONITOR mode and PROGRAM mode is controlled with a key switch. All three units are secured with the same key lock to prevent any unauthorized changes to the system.

To ensure proper installation of the 8200-204 system, please consult Woodward ProTech 203 Overspeed Protection System Installation and Operation Manual 85205 (F). This manual is available online and covers details including location considerations, additional product specifications, and wiring and general installation instructions.

Reviews For 8200-204

Internal Review
(5.0)

The 8200-204 system can be operated in one of two modes: MONITOR or PROGRAM. Although the system will “run” in either mode, it is recommended that the unit be placed in the PROGRAM mode only during configuration and then placed in the MONITOR mode during normal operation. - AX Tech
