The 8280-419 unit is part of the 723PLUS Digital Speed Control for Single Engine Marine Propulsion Applications from Woodward Governor. Two versions of this control are available; model 8280-419 is compatible with medium- and high-speed diesel reciprocating engines. For a low-speed compatible model, see the 8280-418. Both versions of this 723PLUS control are low-voltage models with a power supply rated for 18-40 Vdc.
The 8280-419 control can be used in variable-speed marine propulsion service applications to control both the speed and load of the diesel engines. This control can be used in applications with flexible couplings since the two-speed sensor inputs can be used for magnetic pickups (MPUs) or proximity switches.
Several communication ports on this unit support various options for interfacing with the control for configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. These options include Watch Window; the Woodward Hand Held Programmer; 723PLUS Marine SEP Control View software; and RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communications. Like other 723PLUS controls, the 8280-419 is in a metal enclosure. It is rated for a -40 to +70 °C (-40 to +158 °F) temperature range during operations but can withstand a -55 to +105 °C (-67 to +221 °F) range during storage. This control is susceptible to electromagnetic interference and should be installed in a location that protects it from such conditions.
