Product Description

The IS420UCSBS1A module is a GE controller designed as part of the company’s Mark VIe and Mark VIeS systems.  These systems were designed by the company for the management and control of industrial turbine systems, typically gas and steam turbines.  

The IS420UCSBS1A is a Mark VIeS safety controller module.  It is certified for hazardous location usage, although to use in such locations may require specific and special installation requirements to be met.  The IS420UCSBS1A is based upon a 600 MHz EP80579 Intel processor.  This controller’s power supply has a nominal voltage rating of 28.0 VDC (Min 27.4 VDC, Max 28.6 VDC.)  It has an ambient temperature rating of -30 to +65 degrees Celsius. 

The IS420UCSBS1A is typically used for functional safety loops.  These are created to achieve SIL2 SIL3 capabilities.  Controllers like the IS420UCSBS1A are specifically designed with control hardware and software that meets IEC 61508 certification and uses programming designed for safety control.  In the case of this UCSB controller, the QNX Neutrino operating system is a real-time multi-tasking OS. 

The IS420UCSBS1A is designed as a stand-alone computer module.  It does not have a backplane as traditional controllers do.  The unit is built with its own power supply.  There is no battery and no required jumper settings.
