The project received final approval in mid-May 2021.  It is located off the coast of  Martha&#8217;s Vineyard in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Much Energy Will Vineyard Wind Produce? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> The $3 billion site uses 62 GE Haliade-X turbines.  They will generate electricity for 400,000 businesses and homes.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GE Haliade-X turbines are the largest turbines in the world.  They stand over 850 feet tall.  This is 200 feet taller than the Seattle Space Needle or Saint Louis Arch. The turbines are nearly three times the height of the Statue of Liberty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are More Projects like Vineyard Wind Expected?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> Definitely.  The United States is only beginning its relationship with utility-scale offshore wind.   The current administration has set a target for 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity by the end of this decade.  Earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/eere\/wind\/wind-vision-0\">estimates by the Department of Energy placed goals closer to 22 GW <\/a>by 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multiple regions should see the development of offshore wind projects.  This includes areas along the East and West Coasts, in the Gulf of Mexico, and within the Great Lakes.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bureau of Energy Management (BOEM) has sixteen active renewable energy leases off the east coast.
